TERAKA is a rural tree-planting program in Madagascar, modeled after TIST, that empowers small groups of farmers to combat climate change and improve their livelihoods by planting and maintaining trees on their land. This approach tackles various environmental and social challenges, including climate change, poverty, and gender inequality.
By providing tangible economic benefits to farmers, empowering women as decision-makers and landowners, and promoting sustainable land use practices, TERAKA fosters long-term positive impact.

Led by the Unima group, Ala Honko project aims to restore mangrove ecosystems along Madagascar's northwestern coast. The initial phase involves planting 682 hectares on barren saltflats that have been desolate for over 20 years, enhancing carbon storage in both biomass and soil. The project will expand into similar areas in collaboration with local communities, using bioengineering and hydrological restoration to support the growth of eight native mangrove species.
AHBC emphasizes social, economic, and environmental benefits by involving local communities in seed collection, nursery development, tree planting, and monitoring. Income-generating activities linked to the restored mangroves will also be developed.
